SCHARF TO TAKE OVER THE HASSELL AT BNY – Bank of New York Mellon have announced a replacement for Gerald Hassell, currently the Chairman and CEO of the US bank, as he is set to retire later on during the year. Charles Scharf, the former Visa boss, joined as of Monday and will become Chair of the Board from the start of next year.  Hassell has commented saying, “Charlie is ideally suited to lead BNY Mellon through the next phase of growth.” Going on to say “It has been a privilege to lead BNY Mellon over the past six years… I am enormously proud of our team and what we have achieved together.” BNY’s Lead Independent Director, Joseph Echevarria, has shown his gratitude towards Hassell stating, “Overall, under Gerald’s leadership, the company has delivered strong financial results and superior shareholder returns.” Scharf said “We will work to continue to build the company for the long term while delivering in the short term.
