Speaking at the Milken Institute Global Conference last May, Steve Cohen expressed his frustration at the lack of talent amongst traders, by saying “frankly, I‘m blown away by the lack of talent… its not easy to find great people”. As a result of his discontent, the hedge fund guru has geared up a project which will see him automate the decisions of his best money managers. According to people with knowledge of the matter, he will use analyst recommendations as an input by examining trades e.g. looking at the timing of trades, liquidity in the market, assessing pricing, and the duration over which managers build positions. In short, the model attempts to identify patterns and relationships based on those analytics to replicate trades of it’s best-performing managers.  Will this new system deliver the returns once seen at his old hedge fund S.A.C.
