NEW GLOBAL HEAD OF EQUITIES AT BARCLAYS – Barclays Capital have hired Stephen Dainton (Dainton, Stephen) as the new Global Head of Equities. Dainton, who previously worked for Credit Suisse running the European Equities franchise and later Co-heading the banks markets business in the region, parted ways with the Swiss banking giant earlier this year. The new global head will be based in BarCaps London offices and will report directly to Tim Throsby, the Head of Barclay’s Corporate and Investment Bank. Despite Barclays generating £455mn in equities revenue for the first half of this year, which is up 12% from a year earlier, it is clear the UK investment bank have aims to bolster their position in equities with the hire of Dainton. Throsby had this to say in a memo announcing the appointment, “Stephen will work with the Equities leadership team to accelerate delivery of our strategy to grow revenue and market share with a strong focus on our clients, conduct and controls”. Will the hire of Dainton prove to have the desired results for BarCap? From those in the know, the answer seems to be…yes. #SpartanInternational
