HSBC SWOOP GOLDMANS TRIO TO HELP WITH UNIQUE ASIAN JV – HSBC are the first foreign bank to win permission for a majority-owned securities joint venture in China, as a result they have decided to strengthen their equities team with hires of three executives from Goldman Sach’s Asian-Pacific equities business. The first being Michael Chandler, Jr., who formerly Co-Headed GS’s Equity Research Sales desk, will be joining HSBC as Head of Equity Sales for the region. The second was Martin Zoll, hired to become the Global Head of Corporate Equity Derivatives and Equity-Linked Products, previously an equity derivatives specialist at Goldmans. Completing the threesome is Chito Jeyarajah, who has been employed to help run HSBC’s Equity Capital Markets business in the region. HSBC look to take full advantage of this opportunity in the Asian-Pasific region, with the majority-owned joint venture previously a structure their competitors tried hard to lobby for several years. This is another great example of an investment bank strengthening their core franchise and focus. #SpartanInternational
