BARCLAYS INT. ON THE OFFENSIVE – Barclays International have put plans in place to expand their businesses into Southern Africa and South Korean Markets. People familiar with the matter confirmed that although early, discussions were taking place that South Africa & South Korea were two locations where the investment bank would like to rebuild their operations. One of the two people familiar with the matter said that the bank was looking to open a representative office in South Africa so they can begin offering services to clients. He added Barclays International understands and is very cognisant that they will need to satisfy the terms of a multiyear non-compete agreement with Barclays Africa. @Maria Ramos, CEO of Barclays Africa said “I can tell you unequivocally that unless you have a branch on the ground and a bank on the ground, it doesn’t matter how many times you fly in, you don’t have the local knowledge.” adding, “I don’t mind the competition…Let’s see who wins” #SpartanInternational
